Gaumont won, and from April 1913 to May 1914 Louis Feuillade directed five Fantômas films which critic David Thomson has described as "the first great movie experience."。３年ぶりに病院から戻った高梨光雄は、弟・裕太の家を訪れる。 再会を喜ぶ姪の知恵、その妹でダウン症の一希に迎えられ束の間の幸せを味わう光雄。 その夜、知恵にせがまれた光雄は被災地で見たひまわりについて語る。 知恵はその美しい景色を思い浮かべながら、太陽に向かって咲くひまわりと、時折ふと空を見ている愛しい一希の姿とを重ね会わせるのだった。 明くる日、知恵は光雄と遊園地に行きたい嘆願する。裕太と妻・葉子はそれを快く受け入れ、娘たちを光雄に預けるが・・・幸福な時間も束の間、遊園地で突然の不幸が訪れる。。
