云海市民委干部越永强上任第一天，就碰上了从新疆来寻找失散丈夫的维吾尔族妇女阿拉木罕。为了解决丈夫库尔班与西北拉面馆马老板在生意上的纠纷，阿拉木罕和儿女们只好在云海市住下来。为了做好城市民族工作，越永强把阿拉木罕一家当做自己的亲人相交相识，并与民族美食街的邻居们，云南名茶店白族妇女杨水兰、丈夫扎西茨仁汉族朋友王电脑，以及东方民族村演艺公司的佤族演员桑嘎，公司副总经理赫哲族干部乌克定等人一起，经历了建设民族美食一条街、东方民族园二期扩建工程、边疆扶贫等大起大落的波折，在人情悲欢和快乐幽默的日常生活里中，结为谁也离不开谁的一家人。。文革未期，各种媒体充斥极左言论，谎话连篇累牍，刚从干校调回报社的傅彬（李志舆 饰）为此十分苦恼。同事李记者（史久峰 饰）叮嘱他凡事得过且过，不要太认真，但记者的良心时时折磨着傅彬。一天，他奉报社宋书记（袁岳 饰）之命，与李记者去医学院采访，亲眼目睹了非常荒唐的一幕，内心受到极大剌激。无奈中，他去请教因说真话差点被逼疯的老恩师（乔奇 饰）。回到家中，他与妻子共同回忆起初恋时节，人与人之间纯洁诚实的生活。他决定找宋书记，求他不要让自己写骗人的文章，妻子怕他惹事，好言相劝，他忍不住打了妻子一记耳光。正直的傅彬由于说出真话，被捕入狱，但他坚信，国家不会永远这样下去......。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely. The tamped-down acting and the spare, tense visual rhetoric suggest a state of moral crisis as well as the response—as much in style as in substance—that it demands.。
