《海滨帝国》再现了美国禁酒令时期（1920-1933年）大西洋城这个海滨小城阴暗面的生存状况。《海滨帝国》的编剧是《黑道家族》的编剧特伦斯·温特，该剧根据作家Nelson Johnson的原著《海滨帝国：大西洋城的诞生，鼎盛以及堕落》(Boardwalk Empire:The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City)改编。。40年代逃荒到辽西山区的姑娘棉桃，不幸落入土匪刘八爷手中，棉桃逃跑的路上，被追逼无奈跳入河谷，铁匠水印发现后将她救回家中。四方游走的货郎与棉桃相遇，两人一见钟情，但为感谢水印的救命之恩，棉桃嫁给了水印。货郎伤心而去。刘八爷发现了棉桃，将她抓回关人刘府内。棉桃不从，将刘八爷刺伤，紧急时刻货郎救出棉桃，两人逃跑路上货郎被土匪击中，他向棉桃倾诉了心中的爱慕后离开了人世。。After many dark years of depression Luca seeks to gain her high school diploma. Her little dog Mata helps her to find motivation and keep a positive attitude towards life. To ensure that she makes it through her maths exam, Luca seals a deal with her classmate Kurt: English in exchange for maths tutoring. He becomes a loyal friend and remains by her side when events spiral down...。
